Billy Sadler Moves Up!
Good Luck to Billy Sadler at SF Giants!

I know this is a bit late, but according to www.ctdefenders.com and Greg's Defenders Blog, Billy Sadler has moved up to the Majors of the San Fransico Giants. Congradulations Billy, we can't wait to see you debut!

Garrett Broshius
Talking to #29 Connecticut Defenders Pitcher

I just thought I would share the email that I had with Garrett Broshius.

Me: (Garretts is below mine)

Hi Garrett,

I just wanted to tell you how much me and I am sure many other fans have appreciated you keeping up such a wonderful blog even after the season is over. I'm only 15 but the Defenders has made sports and baseball from a foriegn thing to me, to my hobby. And I always enjoy seeing everyone play. Actually, the last day of the season, you signed your 2006 season baseball card for me. And thats whats great, is players like you, Derin McMains, Tyler Von Schell, Brian Horwitz, etc. Like to interact with the fans and sign things for us. That defiantly makes us feel great. I don't know if you realize how much I appreciate the kindness of you guys. For Example; the final game of the season one of my favorite players, Tyler Von Schell, popped a flyball and I got hit by it. Right away I saw he was worried and he checked up on me after. Lets just say almost all of Sect. 5 was happy to see that players really care about their fans even though they are busy, and are concentrating on the game. I defiantly can't wait for the 2007 season and I hope you, and the rest of the Defenders are with us again, or AAA, or Majors.

Just one question... are you going to be writing a blog during the off season? Cause alot of my friends are always wondering what the team does on their offseason.

A Fan Forever
~Michelle

Garrett Broshius:

Michelle,
Thank you very much for your very kind and sincere e-mail. All of us always enjoy hearing from fans like yourself. And I actually remember the flyball that hit you. I remember that you had Von Schell and his number on your shirt, and I was thinking how ironic that he hit a flyball that hit you. I'm glad that you didn't get hurt in any way from it.
I actually am probably going to write one more blog and I think you'll enjoy it. It's going to be on the off-season jobs that a lot of guys get. I probably won't start it until sometime early next week, so you can look for it at the end of the week. That will probably be my last one, I don't know what I'd write about since we're not in season now!
Take care,

GARRETT

I think its great when players reply to their fans and interact with us. You don't know how happy I was when I recieved a reply. Well, I sent him an email back so if I get another reply, I'll post it.

The Season Closed
But thats only for 2006!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, back to school really kicked my butt...

Well the season just ended on September fourth, and even though we ended up 5th of 6 in the northern part of the league, we still had and amazing first year as the Connecticut Defenders.

MVP for this year was Nate Schierholtz
Most Defensive player was Brian Busher and Derin McMains
I believe it was called Best Pitcher was Chris Begg
The Good Award was to Andy Busch (and after his 9/3 interview with RDSpiehs he gets my vote for funniest guy on the team! LOL)

If I missed any please let me know. I know I missed one cause Dave Machemer recived 2 awards for players that werent there and I know one was Chris and idk what the other one was.

Anyway. The last game was amazing for me. What events! Well for scores, game one we won 2-0 with pitcher Geno Espinelli. And game two we lost 1-4 with the one run from Quincy Foster.

At around the bottom of the third in game one is when my day went nuts. Tyler Von Schell came up and of course I'm cheering cuase hes my favorite player. Welp, he shot out a bunch of foul balls... one ending up coming right at me and hitting me in the back of the leg. EMBARRESING! I had and EMT with me and all around me people were looking. Tyler got on base afterwards and while the EMT was attendingto me my friends told me to look out at first base and there Tyler was looking at me making sure I was okay. I was surprised. After since the kids next to me got the ball, and there was three outs, tyler gave the usher a ball to give me. And after the usher got me down to the dugout between games and Bob Stanely got tylers attention and autographed the ball and asked if I was alright. I was so happy. So I forgot before the game, I had already talked to tyler, gotten his card signed, and gotten Garrett Broshius, Anthony Reyes and Bob Stanley to sign their cards too. So later the EMT wanted me to walk, so I did. I went up to the Table for the Silent auction. And I looked @ tylers Jersey. come to find out. My friends were bidding on it. And... they ended up getting it for me. I was super happy after that. I'm still waititng for them to call my friends saying they are cleaned cause they used them that day. And also afterwards outside after the game, Derin McMains came out back and he gave me a base ball bat. And Idk but I think It may have been a bat that Tyler used cause it said (A.P #28) on it. But Idk. I just may be retarded and it may mean something completly different. and that was on the bottom.

But yeah that day I ended up being on cloud nine, But now I have a huge nasty bruse and welt on my leg. But It was worth it. Believe me. LOL

Well this is basically going to die now until April like Joe and Gregs blogs. But I may post something occasionally if I find out something off season about a player.
